Sovereignty
They try to take it away
My freedom
Bars are my doors
Though these I cannot open
A room I am trapped in
My window is not like yours
Your window has glass
Mine has cold steel bars
On my skin they give me scars
And they try to use it as a weapon
By attacking my soul
But no matter how hard they try
That is a part of me that will not die
Even in this tiny room
I have a choice I am free
The moonlight shines in as does the sun
Above me the stars twinkle
And the wind flows
Reminding me that I am free
I have the choice to feel these things
And in my mind
I have my memories
My feelings of love and compassion
Behind these bars I am here against my will
For a crime I never made
Yet here I am with a smile on my face
For even though I am in this place
My freedom is still with me
The cold shackles will keep me here physically
But the lord is my Sheppard
The book I hold in my hand
Will always help me to understand
Life here
Now Is nothing but a temporary place
One day I will find my own reserve
So keep the key
You cannot hurt me
